Ohio Gov. John Kasich is moving up in the latest New Hampshire poll to just seven points behind Donald Trump.

The poll released today by the American Research Group has Trump at 27 and Kasich at 20. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is next at 10.

The poll shows Kasich doing very well with voters 50 an older. He has 23 percent of that group compared to 25 for Trump.

The phone poll of 600 New Hampshire Republicans and independents is the first to show Kasich above 20 percent in the state. The ARG poll shows Kasich doing better than some other recent polls in the state. The latest Monmouth University poll on Jan. 11 had Kasich at 14, Trump at 25 and Rubio at 14. The last ARG poll before the newest one had Trump at 25 and Kasich at 14, tied with Rubio.

The new poll from ARG shows a 6 point gain for Kasich since Jan. 11.

“Right to Rise USA, the Super PAC supporting Jeb Bush, has been hammering the non-Trump Republicans with negative television ads and mailings in New Hampshire while Ted Cruz and Donald Trump attack each other,” according the Dick Bennett, president of the American Research Group, Inc.

“At the moment, the results from this survey show John Kasich to be the beneficiary of the negative campaigning by the other candidates and their super PACs and it signals that Kasich is first in line in New Hampshire to become the anti-Trump candidate and that the Right to Rise USA negative advertising has not helped Jeb Bush.”
